Image Licensing Process

Licensing an image from Lewis’s archive begins with understanding how and where the photograph will be used. Each enquiry is considered individually, ensuring the selected imagery and licensing terms are suited to the project.

1. Find Your Image

Get in touch if you are looking for a particular subject, location or style of photography, Lewis will help identify suitable images from the wider collection.

2. Tell Us About Your Project

Provide a few details about the intended use, such as whether the image is for editorial publication, advertising, commercial marketing, an exhibition or a website. Where possible, include the intended territory, duration and approximate audience or distribution.

3. Receive a Licensing Proposal

Based on your requirements, Lewis will confirm image availability and provide a quotation outlining the proposed usage, duration, territory and any applicable restrictions. Pricing will reflect the intended use of the image and the scope of the licence required.

4. Confirm Your Licence

Once the quotation and licensing terms have been agreed, the necessary arrangements will be confirmed. Payment and any required documentation will be completed before the licensed image is supplied.

5. Receive Your Image

The approved image will be delivered in an appropriate digital format for the agreed use, together with any relevant licensing information and credit requirements.

A Licence to Suit Your Project

Every project is different. Licences can be discussed for editorial, publishing, advertising, commercial and other appropriate uses. Unless expressly agreed otherwise in writing, licensing grants permission to use an image under specified terms; it does not transfer copyright ownership.
