About Lewis James Phillips

Lewis James Phillips is a freelance photographer, writer and lecturer with over two decades of professional experience across photography, publishing, education and the arts. His practice encompasses documentary, travel, wildlife and contemporary photographic work, with an enduring interest in place, observation, narrative and the relationship between the everyday and the extraordinary.

His photographic work has received high commendations in a number of internationally recognised competitions, including the Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year, Travel Photographer of the Year and the British Wildlife Photography Awards. His work has been widely published and has also been represented by Getty Images.

Alongside his professional photographic practice, Phillips has developed an exhibition-based practice, including participation in the Chester Photo Festival and a personal exhibition, A Strand, Trafalgar Square. He has also worked extensively as a photography lecturer and writer, bringing together practical photographic knowledge with a broader engagement with visual culture and the arts.

He is currently developing three photographic book projects: The Screaming Silence, 3 Minutes and Temperate.

Phillips' current practice focuses on the development of longer-form photographic projects and bodies of work intended for exhibition and publication. His ongoing book projects — The Screaming Silence, 3 Minutes and Temperate — form an important part of this developing practice, extending his photographic work beyond individual images towards sustained visual narratives.
